A Quality Rice Cooker - It's the Simple Things That Matter

It's an old standby cliche, but like all cliches, it exists for a reason; "You get what you pay for." This couldn't be more true than when talking about rice cookers. Rice is such a simple staple, and a rice cooker is so seemingly simple as far as appliances go, that it's easy to understand why people are often reluctant to spend more than the bare minimum necessary when buying one. However, before making this critical mistake, ask around a little. If you have friends that have rice cookers, ask them how they like them. And then ask them how much they paid for it. Chances are pretty good that the people that are ecstatic about the rice they were able to cook shelled out a little bit more cash up front. And the people who are completely unimpressed... and probably rarely, if ever, even using a rice cooker... they went with a bargain-basement model.

If you love rices much as I do, or even if you aren't total rights act, but have decided to adopt some healthier eating into your lifestyle (or maybe you just want to save money and eat at home more often), then you will yourself to take a close look at what kind of rice cooker you're going to buy. Below we'll look at a few of the things to look for in a good rice cooker; the kind that you'll be excited about using it will get your money's worth (more than your money's worth), from it.
One of the secrets to cooking really good rice is to let it soak for a while before putting it on the heat. Higher-end rice cookers will have built-in timers that allow you to add the rice and water at one point in time, even if the actual cooking process is set to start for several, or even many hours later. Once the cooking has begun, it's important that your appliance is designed to be able to monitor the temperature carefully and make necessary adjustments along the way. Otherwise, you're likely to get burnt, crispy rice all over the bottom of your pan. Not only is this no fun for eating, it makes cleaning up that much more difficult.
Another advantage to higher-end rice cookers is the fact that they have various settings capable of making adjustments based on the type of rice you want to cook. This means you can cook white rice, brown rice, wild rice or even risotto or beans. Additionally, you can make adjustments to have your rice consistently come out more wet, drier or even as a type of porridge. No matter how you like it, you can count on the same consistent outcome every time. Heck, you can even use it as a slow cooker to cook delicious soups and stews.
You might also want to look for additional add-ons such as a steamer basket so that you can simultaneously cook steamed vegetables while cooking your rice. In fact, some people will even cook fish and/or chicken in this way. Not only do all your flavor is a beautifully intertwined, but you also have less in the way of dishes to clean up. A double winner!
But again, all these wonderful ways of being able to prepare your food and get it to come out in such a way that you enjoy eating it is very much dependent upon having a quality Rice cooker. The supercheap versions are nothing more than a combination of an electric heating plate in a toaster oven. It's no wonder that people with that kind of rice cooker are completely underwhelmed.

A Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Can Provide Healthy Rice Cooking While Keeping it Warm!

Many people steer clear of attempting to use a stainless steel rice cooker due to the tough challenge it seems to present. However once you decide to start using one to cook rice you will find it really helpful because not only is it cooked perfectly but you can keep it inside which is especially helpful if you have guests over!To successfully make an acceptable pot of rice, you must depend on a precisely correct ratio of water to rice, keeping the temperature high at the beginning and lowering it to simmer. Also, the reason you would specifically want a stainless steel version is because they will last a very long time and theirs no chance of rust being in contact with your food.

Although this may seem overwhelming, an automatic stainless steel rice cooker can make an otherwise difficult task much easier. They range in prices from affordable to the higher-quality expensive models, there is also alternatives for those who don't have the need or time to make a lot of rice.. "rice ball cookers." These minimal-proportion rice cookers are usually made of stainless steel or mesh and work much like a tea infuser - keeping the rice inside while the warm water circles through it until cooked. To break everything down, I will try to give the most simple explanation on how to use a stainless steel rice cooker easy and efficiently.

First open the cooker and make sure it is clean and ready for use, on the inside and outside. Measure out about 1 to 3 tablespoons of preferred cooking oil and pour it on a paper towel. Use the towel and wipe around the rice cooker to cover the entire surface, this is not always necessary but will help keep the rice from sticking to the steel. Fill up the cooker to about the half-way point in the vessel, no need for precise measurements but standard rice cookers hold about 2 cups - be sure not to overfill the cooker or else the rice will not have enough room to expand. Fill the cooker pot up with water and turn it on to bring the water to a boil. Next, you can put the vessel into the boiling water. Make sure the the chain is hanging outside of the pot so you won't have to pull it out of the boiling water when the rice is done cooking. Let the rice cook for whatever time you prefer, depending on what kind of rice you're using.
Generally, this takes anywhere from 14 to 20 minutes.. brown rice can take a bit longer. After the rice is completely cooked, remove the rice from the water using a potholder or towel - suspend it over the water pot and let the remaining water drain from the rice. Use your potholder to open the rice cooker and empty the rice out into a bowl or serving dish.. let cool for a few minutes and enjoy!

Rice Cooker Reviews

Prior to making a purchasing decision regarding a new rice cooker you should read a wide range of product reviews. This will help you decide which brand and size is best suited to your needs. Speaking frankly, it is not exactly difficult to choose a new rice cooker, you just have to know what you should be looking for. So with that in mind, in this rice cooker review piece I want to talk about what you should be concerned about when you are trying to choose a new kitchen appliance of this sort.
To begin with, you have to seriously consider how much money you can realistically afford to spend. Of course, it is nice to buy top of the range, expensive products. However this may or may not be an option for us. So we should start to think seriously about our budget before we do anything else. To be honest, good rice cookers can be bought for about $100. Obviously, the more you spend, the more features you will be able to get your hands on.

If you can afford $100 or so, you want to try to purchase a Micom rice cooker. This is a type of machine that many different brands produce. Currently in the United States and Canada there are four Japanese electronics manufacturers that are selling their products in electrical stores as well as through the online retailer, Amazon. These companies are Zojirushi, Tiger, Sanyo and Panasonic. Buying any one of these brands would not be a bad idea. Of course, you may have experience with some of these makes already so perhaps you have one already in mind. I would say that the brand you choose is not necessarily of huge importance. If you can afford to get a Japanese rice cooker then you are in good shape.
They are all very good.
One of the most important things to consider before purchasing a new rice cooking machine is the size of machine you should get. There are actually three different sizes that are designed for use in the home. The sizes are 3 cup, 5 1/2 cup and 10 cup. These size values refer to the number of cups of un-cooked white rice that they can prepare. So it really depends upon the size of your household, i.e. how many people you will be cooking for, that determines what size of machine you should get. This is definitely something you should keep in mind as you browse through various reviews.
